Computational Skills Workshop

We hosted our first event since reviving the student chapter – a workshop on computational skills for PhD students. The event took place on 22nd October between 1pm and 4pm in the Alan Turing Building, G.107. The talks were designed to be accessible for a broad audience and included practical techniques for use in a variety of research fields. The talks were as follows:

  • Python and the two-language problem - Kaustubh Roy.
  • An introduction to numerical linear algebra in Julia - Michael Jones.
  • An object orientated approach to the finite element method using oomph-lib - Alexander Philips
  • Colourful fluid dynamics: Behind the scenes - Balwinder Singh
